Öğe Alternative work arrangements: Individual, organizational and environmental outcomes(Cell Press, 2023) Yildizhan, Hasan; Hosouli, Sahand; Yilmaz, Sidika Ece; Gomes, Joao; Pandey, Chandan; Alkharusi, TarikFlexible working models are widely used around the world. Furthermore, several countries are currently transitioning to a 4-day workweek. These working models have significant effects on organizational behavior and the environment. The study investigates the employees' attitudes and behaviors toward flexible working and 4-day workweek and the impact on the environment. The semi-structured interview method was used in the study to determine employee attitudes and behaviors; the carbon footprint calculation method was used to determine the environmental impact of a 4-day workweek. According to the study's findings, it has been discovered that there would be a positive impact on socialization, happiness, stress factor, motivation, personal time, mental health, comfort, work-life balance, time-saving, willingness, positive working environment, personal time, and physical health. Furthermore, a 4-day workweek reduced commuting emissions by 20%, resulting in a 6,07 kg tCO(2)e reduction per person. As a result, the study attempted to draw attention holistically to the positive effects of the flexible working model and 4-day workweek. The study is intended to serve as a tool for decision-makers and human resource managers.Öğe Exploring the effects of perceived social support and psychological distress through mediation and multigroup analyses in work-related quality of life(Nature Portfolio, 2025) Yilmaz, Sidika Ece; Citak, SenelWork-related quality of life has emerged as a central focus in the field of occupational health due to its impact on individual well-being and overall quality of life. So, it is crucial to enhance the current theory by conducting a study on the concept across different sectors. Also, the specific mechanisms through which perceived social support influences work-related quality of life remain underexplored. The role of psychological distress as a potential mediator in this relationship has not been investigated. Thus, the study aimed to explore the mediating role of psychological distress in this relationship, while also examining potential gender differences. The study, conducted with 401 teachers through a questionnaire, utilized the AMOS program for data analysis. The findings supported the direct effects among the variables and the mediating role of psychological distress. Additionally, the impact of psychological distress on work-related quality of life was found to be higher for females, but no differences for other paths. The study contributes to the literature by addressing the gap in understanding the mechanisms regarding work-related quality of life. The results highlight the importance of considering psychological distress and gender differences in interventions aimed at improving work-related quality of life.Öğe From perceptions to practice: examining organizational predictors of energy-saving behavior through mixed methods(Springer, 2025) Yilmaz, Sidika EceWorkplaces constitute substantial energy consumers, underscoring the essential role of employees' behaviors in the realm of energy saving. The energy-saving behavior of employees is intricately shaped by a confluence of psychological and organizational factors, personal norms, environmental awareness, and environmental consciousness. However, the combined impacts of organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior in influencing employees' energy-saving intentions and behaviors have received little attention, despite prior studies acknowledging the importance of both individual and organizational factors. This study consists of two separate research studies. Study I included a survey of 354 service employees in Adana, T & uuml;rkiye, employing a convenience sampling method to quantitatively assess the impact of individual attitudes, social cognitive factors, and job attitudes, specifically organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior, on employees' energy-saving behaviors. The Theory of Planned Behavior and Social Exchange Theory were incorporated to create a comprehensive explanatory model. The results of structural equation modelling underscored the substantial influence of organizational citizenship behavior on energy-saving behavior. Expanding on these findings, Study II utilized an observational methodology, engaging 25 employees from the same sample, who were monitored by five trained observers to gain further insights into the actual manifestations of energy-saving behaviors in workplaces. The observational study has also confirmed the effect of organizational citizenship behavior on energy-saving behavior. In total, these complementary studies provide a comprehensive understanding of the factors affecting employees' intentions and behaviors regarding saving energy and offer practical insights for formulating effective organizational policies and interventions to encourage sustainable energy practices among employees.Öğe Students' Well-Being and Academic Engagement: A Multivariate Analysis of the Influencing Factors(Mdpi, 2024) Puiu, Silvia; Udristioiu, Mihaela Tinca; Petrisor, Iulian; Yilmaz, Sidika Ece; Pfefferova, Miriam Spodniakova; Raykova, Zhelyazka; Yildizhan, HasanThis paper aims to identify the factors that are positively or negatively impacting students' well-being and their academic engagement. We used partial least-squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) using the data collected through a questionnaire from four countries: Romania, Turkey, Slovakia, and Bulgaria. The model includes seven factors that influence the well-being of students and indirectly their academic engagement: stressors in the students' lives; professors' support; social support from family and friends; the students' perceived satisfaction in their lives; engaging in activities during their leisure time; self-exploration regarding their careers; and environmental exploration regarding their careers. The results show that all factors, except for stressors and environmental exploration regarding their careers, positively influence the students' well-being and thus their academic engagement. These findings are useful for university professors and managers in better organizing activities to increase academic performance.Öğe The Drivers and Barriers of the Solar Water Heating Entrepreneurial System: A Cost-Benefit Analysis(Mdpi, 2023) Yilmaz, Sidika Ece; Yildizhan, Hasan; Yildirim, Cihan; Zhao, Chuang-Yao; Gomes, Joao; Alkharusi, TarikSustainable development objectives place a high priority on entrepreneurship and renewable energy. Supporting entrepreneurial activities in the renewable energy industry can provide economic growth and employment to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda 2030. Solar water heating systems can provide clear benefits for both the environment and economic growth. There is a gap in the literature regarding the study of the factors hindering or driving the development of the solar water heating system industry. This study aims to investigate the solar water heating system industry's challenges and attempts to define the drivers to further develop the industry. Thus, solar water heating entrepreneurship parameters can be identified. Additionally, energy savings and carbon dioxide emissions were calculated for the region to raise awareness among consumers. This study used the qualitative analysis method through semi-structured interviews with 40 business owners in Adana/Turkey. The findings showed that the industry has administrative, production, political, and economic issues; there is a need for economic support and expanding education and control mechanisms. Also, the payback period is 1.63 similar to 3.27 years for a solar water heating system and this system prevents 800.75 kg of CO2 emission. The study has implications for policy-making, practice, scientific research, and the SDGs Agenda 2030.Öğe The expanded theory of planned behavior for energy saving among academics in Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Slovakia(Nature Portfolio, 2025) Puiu, Silvia; Yilmaz, Sidika Ece; Udristioiu, Mihaela Tinca; Raganova, Janka; Raykova, Zhelyazka; Yildizhan, Hasan; Ameen, ArmanGiven the escalating global energy consumption and the concurrent economic and energy crises, energy-saving behaviour must be adopted on a large scale. Universities that are energy-intensive institutions should be one of the institutions where energy-saving behaviour is widely adopted. Academics devote a substantial portion of their time to their offices, which leads to increased energy usage. However, no study has investigated academics' energy-saving behaviours in the literature. Most studies focus on students or employees in various organizations. Our study tries to cover the gap by examining the energy-saving behaviour of academics in four countries (Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Slovakia) based on the expanded Theory of Planned Behaviour. A questionnaire was distributed to 228 academics from the four countries to gather data. The research hypotheses were tested using partial least squares structural equation modelling. The findings show that individual factors (attitude and perceived behaviour control) influence the energy-saving intention of academics but not the organisational factors due to the weak identification with their universities. The study offers valuable insights for policymakers seeking to promote energy-saving programs in academic institutions. The academics can be seen as role models for their students which emphasizes the need to study more their sustainable behaviours.Öğe Unveiling Organizational Career Patterns: A Bibliometric Investigation(Wiley Periodicals, Inc, 2026) Yilmaz, Sidika EceOrganizational career research is crucial in understanding the complexities of modern workforce dynamics, especially since organizations increasingly emphasize talent management and employee development. This study examined 465 publications from Scopus in the domains of Management and Organization and Social Sciences, covering the period between 1973 and 2023.
