A Perceptual Approach to Aging: Latent Aging
    (Hipatia Press, 2020) Ozsungur, Fahri
This study is a review article. Gerontology literature was reviewed and issues of latent aging were systematically formed. According to the results of the study, latent aging consists of perceptual diagnosis, research, adoption, and reactive actions. Reactive actions include the social, psychological and physical effects of latent aging. The social effects of latent aging are the decline of social relations and social isolation. Depression, stress, anxiety, traumas and cognitive decline are among the psychological effects. Chronic musculoskeletal pain, sleep disorders, premature mortality, and suicidal ideation were determined as physical effects. The detection of latent aging is important in the prevention of chronic diseases. It was revealed that latent aging has the following four main processes: perceptual diagnosis and coding, research and comparison, adoption and reactive actions. Furthermore, this aging approach has three significant effects: social, psychological and physical.

A research on the effects of successful aging on the acceptance and use of technology of the elderly
(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2022) Ozsungur, Fahri
The aim of the study is to analyze the effects of successful aging on technology acceptance and use behaviors, via developing a model. This study was conducted with 687 participants in five Retirement Rest Homes in Turkey. A model was developed to meet the study's research objectives using the scales of successful aging and the second unified theory of acceptance and use of technology. A path analysis was performed with Partial Least Squares (PLS) structural equation model. Struggle Against Difficulties (SAD) significantly predicted performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, habit, and behavior intention, even though SAD did not predict USE. HLH significantly predicted performance expectancy, social influence and facilitating conditions; HLH did not predict effort expectancy, hedonic motivation, price 15 value, habit, behavior intention, and USE. It was revealed that successful aging affected the technology acceptance model in general except the use of technology. It is recommended for future studies that successful aging should be evaluated with varied model studies.

A cohort of 303 male participants (50 men with high blood pressure, 32 with cardiac disease, 30 with diabetes mellitus, 23 with the prostate gland, and 39 with other diseases) were included in the study. Successful aging scale (SAS), independence in activities of daily living scale (ADLs), instrumental activities of daily living scale (IADLs), satisfaction with life scale (SLs) were performed. SLs was positively associated with SAS (R = .287;r(2) = .083;p <=.001), healthy lifestyle habits (HLH) (R = .046;r(2) = .014;p <=.001), struggle against difficulties (SAD) (R = .307;r(2) = .094;p <=.001), and IADLs (R = .156;r(2) = .024;p <=.001). Age was negatively associated with IADL (R = .247;r(2) = .061;p <=.001). Age was unassociated with SAS or the components (HLH;SAD). Monthly income was positively associated with SLs (R = .409;r(2) = .167;p <=.001). Education was positively associated with SAD (R = .230;r(2) = .053;p <=.001), HLH (R = .237;r(2) = .056;p <=.001), SLs (R = .190;r(2) = .036;p <=.001), and SAS (R = .252;r(2) = .064;p <=.001). The SAS with its components was valid and reliable [chi 2:92,485; chi 2/df:2.371; SRMR:.099; RMSEA:.067; NNFI:.926; IFI:.937; CFI:936; GFI:.916; AGFI:.916]. SLs and education had a positive effect on SAS, and its components (HLH, SAD). The SAS was proved with validity and reliability.

The Effects of Successful Aging in the Workplace on Technology Acceptance and Use Behaviour
(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2021) Ozsungur, Fahri
This study investigated the association between successful aging and mobile internet acceptance and use behavior in the workplace. A total of 221 participants responded to the survey. The constructs in the model were measured using successful aging in the workplace scale (SAW), the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2). A mixed-method evaluation design was adopted in the study, which included quantitative and qualitative analysis methods. SAW was positively associated with UTAUT2 (beta = ,856; p <= 0,05), unassociated with BI (beta = ,089;p = ,466) and USE (beta = ,364; p = ,235). UTAUT2 was positively associated with BI (beta = 1,110; p <= 0,001) and USE (beta = ,511; p <= 0,001); HT (beta = ,713; p <= 0,001) and FC (beta = ,708; p <= 0,01) were positively associated with BI. BI was positively associated with USE (beta =,391; p <= 0,05). SAW was unassociated with BI (beta = ,089; p = ,466; t = ,729), and USE (beta = ,364; p = ,235; t = 1,189). The main result of this study was the positive association between SAW and UTAUT2, in contrast to the unassociation between the SAW and BI. The qualitative results showed the main differences between the SAW and the perception of the successful aging of employees.

The psychological effects of systemic lupus erythematosus: the imitator of aging
(Lymphosign Journal Ltd Partnership, 2020) Ozsungur, Fahri
Objectives: To assess the psychological effects of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), including perception of aging, in a cohort of participants who were either diagnosed with SLE or had an affected family member. Methods: Over a period of 1 year, we conducted once-monthly face-to-face interviews with 12 participants. The participants were from 4 related families and include 7 females and 5 males. Three participants had a confirmed diagnosis of SLE. Spouses were also included in this study to assess transitivity of the psychological signs of SLE. Responses to structured interview questions were analyzed to assess the perception of aging. Results: The major complaints in participants diagnosed with SLE were pain and psychological stress. Nephrotic syndrome, urinary tract infection, weight disorders and increased need for psychosocial support were common in the participants' medical history. Qualitative analysis of questionnaires completed by participants with SLE revealed a correlation of feeling old with the non-resolution of health complaints. Family members who did not have SLE also reported feeling old. Complaints of stress, anxiety, nervousness and lack of enjoyment of life were common in those who were diagnosed with SLE, as well as those who were not. All spouses reported experiencing digestive disorders, hemorrhoids as well as various phobias, regardless of whether their partners had a confirmed SLE diagnosis. Conclusions: In this study, we found that participants with SLE or those who had a close family member with SLE displayed psychological signs of aging. All participants had a predisposition to anxiety, while spouses developed various phobias. Statement of novelty: We show that individuals with SLE and close family members have an increased self-perception of aging.
