China’s Diplomacy and Intensifying Geopolitical Tensions in Neighboring Nations
(Taylor and Francis, 2024) Gündüz, Fatma Feyza; Deo, Shilpa
China is seen as both a land of opportunities and a significant threat with its rapidly growing economy and increasingly rising political profile in the global arena. China’s military expenditures and population are important indicators that cannot be ignored in terms of international politics in the global power struggle towards 2050. In parallel with its economic performance, its pro-active attitude in Africa and South America outside the Asia-Pacific geography has made China a key country not only on a regional scale but also in global politics. China, which isolated itself throughout the Cold War period, began to grow economically with the foreign opening policy implemented in 1978 under the leadership of Deng Xiaoping. One aspect of China’s rise is the impact of these economic connections on China’s political relations with its neighbors. Peaceful relations have increased, especially due to its extensive economic ties with its Western and Asian neighbors. Therefore, the increase in economic interdependence between China and its neighbors is associated with the improvement of political relations. This study examines China’s diplomacy and geopolitical tensions, economic fluctuations, military and political processes and commercial relations intensifying in neighboring countries, and is expected to make significant contributions to science and researchers. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Shilpa Deo and Fatma Feyza Gündüz; individual chapters, the contributors.

    Concluding Remarks
(Taylor and Francis, 2024) Gündüz, Fatma Feyza; Deo, Shilpa
The COVID-19 1, 2 pandemic has shattered the world economies. The challenges posed by the pandemic and the impact of new waves have dragged all economic instruments and investors into an uncertain territory. It has resulted in several repercussions like decreasing growth rates, falling demand, supply-chain disruptions and accompanying income inequalities. Despite the time that has passed since the spread of the pandemic, its socio-economic, political, and psychological effects continue to persist, albeit to a lesser extent. Although it is not known when the economies will be able to come out of the post-COVID challenges, there is no doubt that they will be talked about for many years to come. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Shilpa Deo and Fatma Feyza Gündüz; individual chapters, the contributors.

Economic Uncertainty in the Post-Pandemic Era: Policy Responses and the Way Forward
(Taylor and Francis, 2024) Deo, Shilpa; Gündüz, Fatma Feyza
The global economy has experienced many challenges in recent times, particularly in the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic, such as dwindling demand, supply chain disruptions, declining growth rates, further pandemic waves, and increasing poverty and inequality to name but a few. Four years after the pandemic, economies are still struggling to achieve sustainable economic growth and development. While much has been written about the impact of COVID-19 on various sectors and economies, this is the first book to underscore the post-COVID global uncertainties that are still occurring on the world stage and further, to present the recent challenges such as geo-political tensions, war, economic disturbances, climate change, the energy crisis in Europe, recession in developed economies and its effect on developing and least developed economies. The book starts by setting the grounds for further discussion of the present challenges as well as future implications. In addition to examining the immediate issues which occurred with the onset of the pandemic, it explores these from the perspective of developed, developing, and least developed countries. The wide-ranging topics covered by the book include the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War, China’s increasing economic dominance in neighbouring countries, the economic collapse of Sri Lanka and Pakistan, the factors that led to the technology layoffs and the future of global employees and economies. The book goes beyond looking at sector-specific factors and broadly outlines country-specific instabilities, policy choices and the way forward. The book will be of interest to students of macroeconomics, development and international economics, and international relations as well as researchers and policymakers. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Shilpa Deo and Fatma Feyza Gündüz; individual chapters, the contributors.
