Growth and Yield of Hybrid Maize as Influenced by Fertilizer Management
(2018) Hasan, Maidul; Ray, Tushar Kanti; Islam, K. M. Manirul; Alı, S.M. Younus; Muhammad, Noor; Rahman, Ataur; Barman, Nitay Chand
An experiment was carried out at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Department ofAgronomy, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Bangladeshduring the rabi season (December to May), 2012-13 to study the effect of differentorganic and inorganic fertilizers on growth and development of hybrid maize (Denali). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete block Design with threereplications with 30 plots. Ten fertilizer treatments (T 1 = Compost, T 2 = Cow dung, T 3 =Poultry manure, T 4 = Recommended fertilizer dose, T 5 = Compost + Half recommendedfertilizer dose, T 6 = Compost + Full recommended fertilizer dose, T 7 = Cow dung + Halfrecommended fertilizer dose, T 8 = Cow dung + Full recommended fertilizer dose, T 9 =Poultry manure + Half recommended fertilizer dose, T 10 = Poultry manure + Fullrecommended fertilizer dose. The recommended fertilizer dose was 500 Kg ha -1 urea +250 Kg ha -1 TSP + 200 Kg ha -1 MP + 15 Kg ha -1 ZnSO 4 + 6 Kg ha -1 Boric Acid. And therate of Compost, Cow dung and Poultry manure was 10t/ha. The effect of differentmanure and fertilizer doses on the yield and yield attributes were significant. The plantheight, number of leaves per plant, weight of stem per plant, weight of leaves per plant, length of cob, grain weight per cob, diameter of cob, no. of grains per row, no. of totalgrains per cob, 1000-grain weight, yield plant -1 , yield ha -1 were significantly affected bydifferent manures and fertilizer uses with different doses. The treatments T 1 , T 2 , T 3 , T 4 ,T 5 , T 6 , T 7 , T 8 , T 9 and T 10 gave grain yield 10.16, 9.09, 8.49, 14.34, 13.35, 18.12, 11.99,17.09, 11.40 and 15.98 t ha -1 , respectively. The T 6 Treatment gave higher grain yield(18.12) t ha -1 and the T 3 treatment performed lowest grain yield (8.49 t ha -1 ). Theapplication of compost and full dose fertilizer is higher yielding. Balance nutrition withenough organic matter enrichment of the soil is the cause of this result.

Quantitative Constituents Analysis of Rice Mill Wastewater
(2020) Islam, Motaharul; Nasrın, Taslema Nasrin; Rahman, Mosiur; Islam, Mofizul; Ray, Tushar Kanti
In the present world, climate change is a mass talked issue. Because of climate change, humans andanimals are under the risk of threatening. The scientist has pointed out that main reasons for climatechange are waste. Waste is generated from household chores and industries, factories etc. that areaffecting the balance of the environment in many ways. This waste may be of various types such assolid, liquid, gaseous etc. Therefore, the study was taken to assess the chemical components containin wastewater in Dinajpur Sadar, Bangladesh. This study was aimed to evaluate the chemicalcompositions of the generated wastewater including comparison with the groundwater. The dataconcerning to the rice mill waste water in Dinajpur, Bangladesh was obtained from individual fieldvisits by interviewing with owner and worker in the rice mills. The wastewater samples werecollected randomly from different rice mills. A laboratory experiment was performed to determinethe chemical constituents of the wastewater sample. The wastewater contained of pH(6.11-6.18),EC(181.47-185.23 µScm-1), Na(26.19-28.89 mgl-1), Ca(45.41-51.26 mgl-1), Mg(47.12-49.8 mgl10), K(184.7-191.3 mgl-1), TDS(45.94-47.96 mgl-1), HT(306.7-332.33 mgl-1), S(11.05-13.25 mgl-1),Cl-(522.45-526.182 mgl-1), HCO3-(5.12-6.99 mgl-1), DO(0.46-0.53 mgl-1), P(17.01-21.54 mgl-1).The obtained concentration of Ca, EC, pH, Na and HCO3- were within the reported range ofgroundwater in Dinajpur, Bangladesh. The concentration of Cl-, K, P, Mg and hardness in thewastewater were above the concentration of reported groundwater in Dinajpur, Bangladesh. On theother hand, the concentration of TDS in the wastewater was less than the reported concentration ofgroundwater in Dinajpur, Bangladesh.
