Application of Plurigaussian Simulation Technique to a Cement Raw Material Deposit
(Tmmob Maden Muhendisleri Odasi, 2015) Yunsel, T. Y.; Ersoy, A.
The traditional simulation methods have serious limitations for applications to large numbers of domains, which have complex contact relations. Plurigaussian simulation is an effective method which can be applied to any number of domains, using both local and global geological information to infer the distributions of rock types. This study presents the application of the plurigaussian simulation method to the cement raw material deposit of Adana Cement Factory and assesses the spatially varying rock type proportions, and accounts for uncertainties between them. The method is able to incorporate cement quality parameters and geological logging from drill hole samples as well as prior geological knowledge as conditioning information for the realisations of rock types. The results indicate that the plurigaussian method correctly reproduces the different orientations of the individual rock types.

CRITICAL REVIEW OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON SOIL HEAVY METAL CONTAMINATION
(Aloki Applied Ecological Research And Forensic Inst Ltd, 2021) Ersoy, A.
Soil contamination by heavy metals has become a severe environmental issue in the world due to rapid development of urbanisation, industrial, mining, agricultural and natural processes, and chemical compounds. Reliable and quality results quantify the adverse effects of these factors. A precise and cost-efficient study depends on adequate background research, a well-planned sampling design and strategy, quality data, appropriate selection and implementation of analytical techniques and investigation. The investigation methods for heavy metal soil or land contaminations drive decision making and remediation which is very expensive. Therefore, this study offers comprehensive and comparative review on data organisation and treatment; guidelines, legislation of heavy metals; data analysis and investigation methods. The primary objectives of the review are to discuss the various stages involved in the investigation of heavy metals/land for site engineers and environmental scientists. Data analysis methods include exploring contamination indices, statistical and multivariate statistical analysis methods, interpolation techniques, geostatistical estimation, simulation, and combined methods. Strengths, weaknesses and the application scopes of these methods and the resulting models used are critical for success in environmental modelling.

CURRENT STATUS AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF COAL-FIRED POWER PLANTS IN TURKEY: AN OVERVIEW
    (Baski, 2023) Ersoy, A.
Literature research indicates that there are several social reports and superficial information related to coal-fired power plants (CFPPs) in Turkey, whereas a collective and comprehensive study on the issue is scarce in the related literature. In this study, the current status and environmental impacts of CFPPs in Turkey are comprehensively and critically overviewed. With the fast growth of Turkey's economy, population, and energy demand CFPPs have largely increased in the last fifteen years. Turkey's energy policy has consistently developed to support its growing economy and population, reduce the increasing import dependence and reach the country's aims, and meet international standards. Fossil fuel reserves are highly restricted when compared to the country's demands, thus the majority of the energy demand is provided by imports. Turkey's top priority is to decrease its import dependency and current account deficit using domestic coal and renewable energy potential. Coal mining operations and CFPPs are substantially subsidised by the government including research and development support, coal exploration, and extraction. CFPPs contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution which harm human health and the environment. This will be prevented by adopting a policy of high-efficiency and low emissions, using clean coal technologies, by installing a flue-gas desulphurisation system on the power plant. Finally, this review could help global researchers, energy investors, and Turkish Authorities to design the country's coal-based sustainable energy future. © 2023 IMCET 2023 - Proceedings of the 28th International Mining Congress and Exhibition of Turkey. Grade/Reserve characterisation of feldspar deposits: A practical multivariate geostatistical approach
(Chamber of Mining Engineers of Turkey, 2013) Yünsel, T.Y.; Ersoy, A.
This paper aims at predicting a primary variable in presence of a secondary variable on the basis of multivariate case. Main idea of the paper is to implement collocated co-kriging technique with a primary and auxiliary variable as a case study. Mostly drilling logs consist of multiple variable records and may be identical to each other. This technique enables multiple variable analyses especially where the secondary data is sparsely distributed. A case study was carried out on determining grade and reserve characteristics of a feldspar deposit in Sarpdere Region (Çine-Aydi{dotless}n-TURKEY). Collocated co-kriging estimation technique was applied to two main feldspar compounds (Na2O and SiO2). Individual experimental variograms and cross variogram of the compounds have been modelled and spatial structure compatibility of the models on the study field were tested by cross validation procedure. Also, grade/tonnage curve graphs and tabulated tonnage distributions at sequential cut-off interval have been calculated.
